Orthopedic surgeons lack quantitative information on the mechanical response of a subject’s femur (deformations, strains, stresses, etc.). Towards this aim, patient-specific finite element simulations based on qCT scans were developed [Keyak 2001, Yosibash 2007, Trabelsi 2011]. These models are deterministic and require assumptions on geometry, material properties, and boundary conditions, which are mostly uncertain. This study investigates the uncertainty related to the hip contact force during walking free and going upstairs. Together with the uncertainty of the elastic property of human femurs [Wille 2012], such a stochastic model will allow to quantify both the mechanical behavior and its reliability.     «
