Abstract:
This study aimed to understand the role of NADPH oxidases in the obese heart. Results showed that p22phox deficient mice, lacking functional NADPH oxidases, were protected against obesity induced cardiomyopathy. The study provides compelling evidence that p22phox dependent NADPH oxidases promote obesity induced cardiomyopathy by dysregulating the micro-RNA transcriptome, oxidative stress pathways, unfolded protein response, and programmed cell death.
